China International Airsports Fiesta

Location:  Laiwu, China – September 2011

This was my second year attending this enormous air show.  100,000 (one hundred thousand) spectators attended!  It is held at a dedicated use airport built especially for airsports and for this annual air show.

Basically, this air show demonstrates anything that flies to the Chinese public, who rarely see an air show anywhere.  Many international aerobatic pilots and their aircraft were transported to this event.  Helicopters, aerobatic airplanes, powered hang gliders and skydiving performed.

My JR airplane team mate, Ido Segev and I did dual flights.  I flew Vibe 90SG FBL nitro helis.  I like using nitro powered helicopters especially at air shows for the added noise and smoke it makes.  We had to fly large and fast so the vast crowd could hopefully see our performance.  The spectators were scattered along a mountain sides and the event grand stands.  I doubt the spectators along the far mountains saw our routine; only the good seats!

I had a great time in China with JR representatives and Ido Segev.  Our time in China is always fun with many memorable experiences!
